Interlibrary Loans. Duties include packaging books for returning to out-of-state libraries and some photocopying. An eye for detail is required.
Maintaining newpaper clippings. Volunteers must be able to commit to three hours every two weeks.
Circulation. Volunteers search for missing books, books in transit, and “claims returned items.” Training is provided.
Childrens’ Department. Volunteers assist by making phone calls, replenishing displays, and providing general office support.
Book and Gift Shop. Volunteers help sort donated books for a few hours on alternate Saturdays. Some lifting is involved.
Public Relations. Volunteers insert information about library programs into local online media calendars. This work can be done from the volunteer’s home.
Outreach. Spanish/English speaking volunteers provide occasional translation and interpretation. Other volunteers substitute or teach a class, or provide general office assistance.
Grillo Health Information Center. Volunteers help people who are seeking current information on health issues. Training is provided.
Database Entry. Volunteers transfer oral histories from tape to computer files and enter information for the online oral history site. Training is provided, although volunteers must be comfortable with a video camera and computer equipment, as well as with using text and database computer programs.
